Background Information

An advisor to college presidents and Boards of Trustees, a plaintiff lawyer, a defense attorney, an investigator, a human resource professional, a speaker, and a hearing officer, Kendall’s legal career spans almost three decades within higher education, nonprofit, private law practice, and corporate sectors.  He served as Vice President and General Counsel at Clark University and Dickinson College, where he acted in advisory roles for employment, policy, dispute resolution and investigatory matters. At Clark, he also assumed the secretary of the university responsibilities which, among other duties, involved functioning as the primary liaison between the Board of Trustees and the university and providing oversight over institutional governance concerns. His extensive work with the University System of Georgia prepared him for issues germane to employees in the public sector, as he served a dual role as Chief of Staff and Chief Legal Officer for Fort Valley State University, and as Chief Legal Officer and Chief Human Resource Officer for both Darton State and Bainbridge State Colleges. His experience in higher education also includes several years as a tenure-track assistant law professor at Appalachian School of Law, where he taught courses in alternative dispute resolution, appellate advocacy and employment discrimination.  

Prior to higher education, Kendall practiced employment law, dispute resolution and workers’ compensation for the firm he started, The Isaac Firm, as well as for Reminger LPA – a Law360 regional law firm headquartered in Ohio. He has also been a mediator, a FINRA arbitrator, a National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM) hearing officer, and served in human resource leadership roles for Fortune 500 companies Abbott Laboratories and Bisys/Citigroup. 

As a former Toastmasters International finalist for the title of World Champion of Public Speaking, he enjoys speaking to businesses, nonprofits, and Boards of Trustees about issues pivotal to the workplace. He has spoken at various conferences including the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Southeastern Association of Law Schools. He has also had writings printed in publications such as the Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal, the American Journal of Mediation, and Inside Higher Education. 

Kendall graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A. in rhetorical communications, from Capital University Law School with a J.D. and a concentration in labor and employment law, and from Columbus State University with an Ed.D. in curriculum and leadership.  He has acquired a licensed to practice law in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Massachusetts, DC, and Maryland.
